The Safety Life Line is a fixed or flexible rope, cable, or webbing system installed to provide a continuous, secure anchor point along which workers can attach their fall arrest or restraint equipment while moving through a work area at height. Typically constructed from high-strength synthetic rope, steel wire cable, or webbing material, the lifeline is engineered to withstand significant load forces, ensuring it remains intact and functional even in the event of a fall being arrested by a connected worker’s harness and lanyard system.
Lifelines can be installed horizontally, allowing workers to move side to side along a structure such as a rooftop or beam while remaining continuously connected to fall protection, or vertically, enabling workers to ascend or descend ladders, towers, or vertical structures while attached to a fall arrester device that travels along the line.
Anchor points at each end of the lifeline are securely fixed to structural elements capable of withstanding the forces generated during a fall arrest event, and the line itself is regularly inspected for wear, fraying, or corrosion depending on the material used. Safety Life Lines are essential infrastructure in construction, tower maintenance, rooftop work, and confined space access, providing the critical connection point that allows other fall protection equipment such as harnesses and fall arresters to function as a complete, reliable system.
