Safety Net

The Safety Net is a passive fall protection system consisting of a strong, woven mesh net installed beneath or around elevated work areas such as scaffolding, building floors under construction, or bridge structures, designed to catch a worker who falls and prevent them from striking the ground or lower levels, significantly reducing the risk of severe injury or fatality. Manufactured from high-strength synthetic fibers such as polypropylene or nylon, the net is engineered to absorb and distribute the impact energy of a falling body across its entire surface, decelerating the fall gradually rather than causing a sudden, dangerous impact.

Unlike personal fall arrest systems that require each individual worker to be actively connected to a harness and lanyard, safety nets provide passive, collective protection for an entire work area, catching any worker who falls regardless of whether they were using individual fall protection equipment at the time.

The net is typically secured to the surrounding structure using strong rope borders and anchor points, with the netting positioned at a calculated distance below the work area to ensure it can safely arrest a fall without the worker striking the ground or other obstructions. Safety Nets are commonly used in high-rise construction, bridge building, and industrial settings where multiple workers are simultaneously exposed to fall hazards over a large area, providing a valuable supplementary layer of protection alongside guardrails, harnesses, and other fall prevention measures.
