Retractable Fall Arrester

In stock

The Retractable Fall Arrester, also known as a self-retracting lifeline (SRL), houses a spring-loaded drum mechanism inside a compact casing that automatically extends and retracts a length of webbing or cable as the worker moves toward or away from the anchor point, maintaining a taut connection without excess slack that could increase fall distance. In the event of a sudden fall, an internal braking mechanism engages almost instantly, arresting the fall within a very short distance, typically much shorter than a standard lanyard, which significantly reduces the risk of injury and the clearance space required below the work area.

The device’s housing is generally made from durable, impact-resistant plastic or metal, protecting the internal spring and braking mechanism from dust, moisture, and physical damage while allowing smooth operation of the retracting cable or webbing during normal work movement. Because the line remains close to the worker at all times due to the automatic retraction feature, the risk of tripping over slack line or the line becoming entangled with tools or structures is greatly reduced compared to fixed-length lanyards.

Retractable Fall Arresters are widely used in construction, tower maintenance, and warehouse racking operations where workers need continuous, hands-free fall protection while moving around a work area at height, offering both improved safety performance and greater freedom of movement compared to traditional shock-absorbing lanyards.

Description

Advantages

The spring-loaded drum mechanism inside a Retractable Fall Arrester automatically extends and retracts webbing or cable as the worker moves, maintaining a taut connection without excess slack that could increase fall distance. An internal braking mechanism engages almost instantly during a sudden fall, arresting the fall within a much shorter distance than a standard lanyard.

Because the line stays close to the worker at all times, the risk of tripping over slack or entanglement with tools or structures is greatly reduced, and the durable, impact-resistant housing protects the internal mechanism from dust, moisture, and physical damage.

Retractable fall arresters suit tasks requiring continuous, hands-free fall protection with minimal fall distance.
  • Construction work requiring frequent repositioning
  • Tower maintenance with continuous movement needs
  • Warehouse racking operations at height
  • Tasks needing shorter clearance distance below the work area
  • Applications prioritising freedom of movement over fixed lanyards
Construction, tower maintenance, and warehouse racking operations use retractable fall arresters where workers need continuous, hands-free fall protection while moving around a work area at height. The housing and retraction mechanism should be inspected regularly for smooth operation, and the unit should be serviced or replaced immediately after it has arrested a fall.
